Remixed for 2014: New Chrysler 300S Delivers An Added Dose of ‘Imported From Detroit’ Style With Exclusive Beats By Dr. Dre Sound

2014 Chrysler 300S

The Chrysler 300 is the flagship of “Imported From Detroit” style. And for the Spring of 2014, the Chrysler 300S has been updated with even more “blacked out” design elements, a new Ambassador Blue sport interior to complement its world-class ride and handling, exclusive Beats by Dr. Dre audio system and state-of-the-art technology features – all to offer customers a combination of quality, distinct style and craftsmanship that could only be born in the Motor City.

“Chrysler brand’s S-models continue to be among the most sought after lineup of vehicles with their modern and athletic style – and for 2014, the new Chrysler 300S redefines ‘S’ for ‘Stance,’ with an even more imposing presence,” said Al Gardner, President and CEO — Chrysler Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “Adding to its legacy, including being crowned ‘Best Chrysler in Decades’ by a leading automotive consumer group, this new generation 300S is where world-class tailoring meets world-class quality, materials and technology. In addition to its standard, and almost iPad size, touchscreen display, Beats by Dre sound, available AWD, 20-inch black pocket wheels and Piano Black trims, the new Chrysler 300S now comes with exquisitely tailored dark blue leather seats. We call it Ambassador Blue. It’s one more way to suit up our ‘Imported from Detroit’ Stance.”

New 2014 Chrysler 300S
Hinting that this Chrysler flagship was born for those seeking “blacked out” style, the new 2014 Chrysler 300S model features a monochromatic look with specially appointed body-color door handles and fascia inserts. New Gloss Black belt molding, daylight opening surrounds and tail lamp bezels are paired with Gloss Black headlamp bezels for a toughened look. A new Black Chrome grille surround features sculpted horizontal grille blades in the same unique finish, while front and rear Chrysler wing badges in Liquid Chrome with black “Chrysler” center logo exude an industrial appearance. Emphasizing the Chrysler 300S model’s iconic silhouette is the availability of a Gloss Black painted roof. A new 20-inch wheel design (19-inch with AWD) features a sculptural appearance and Hyper Black finish that hints at this flagship’s world-class ride and handling capabilities. For a serious look, new “straight shade” Dark Ceramic Gray clear coat joins the exterior color pallet.

The interior of the new 2014 Chrysler 300S model continues the athletic-luxury theme with 12-way power driver and passenger sport seats, featuring black, or all-new Ambassador Blue Nappa leather with silver accent stitching. For added detail, the center console armrest and door armrests are color matched to the seats and feature French seamed stitching in silver. Exclusive use of Piano Black on interior center stack, instrument panel, steering wheel, gauge cluster and door panel elements provide a uniquely lacquered and highly detailed appearance. This enthusiast-designed interior also features matte carbon hydrographic accents and die-cast steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

The award-winning Uconnect 8.4 system with the segment’s largest touchscreen is at the center of the new Chrysler 300S model’s interior. Included in this Chrysler flagship sedan is the segment-exclusive, Beats by Dr. Dre. audio system, with 10-speakers and a 12-channel amplifier that integrates the heart of the Beats proprietary equalizer algorithm. Beats by Dr. Dre founders, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, worked side-by-side with the engineering team at Chrysler to design and tune this Chrysler 300 to deliver the high-definition sound required in professional recording studios.

2014 Chrysler 300S
Power and performance
Unique to the Chrysler 300S model is the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine with a cold-air induction system and sport-tuned exhaust system – enabling the aluminum mill to produce 300 horsepower and 264 lb.-ft. of torque. For even more driving performance, this 300 model includes the segment-exclusive eight-speed automatic transmission with sport mode to fully optimize the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and shifting speed of the transmission. Completing the package are 20-inch all-season performance tires (19-inch with AWD), paired with a touring-tuned suspension with 25 percent quicker steering and 20 percent heavier on-center feel than the entry-level 300 model.

For customers who seek more performance, the Chrysler 300S rear-wheel and all-wheel drive models are available with the 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engine with four-cylinder mode Fuel Saver Technology, 370 horsepower and driver-selectable sport mode. To maximize the power and torque of this legendary power plant, a firmer performance-tuned suspension and larger performance-disc brake system is exclusive on HEMI-powered rear-wheel drive models.

World-class eight-speed automatic transmission
Once limited to premium import vehicles costing twice as much, the segment-exclusive ZF eight-speed automatic transmission expands the world-class power and fuel efficiency of the 2014 Chrysler 300S, and offers class-leading fuel efficiency with respect to:

  • Best-in-class highway fuel economy (31 mpg highway)
  • Best-in-class V-6 all-wheel-drive (AWD) fuel economy (18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway)
  • Best-in-class combined fuel economy (23 mpg with RWD, 21 with AWD)
  • Unsurpassed city fuel economy (19 mpg RWD, 18 mpg AWD)
  • Overall unsurpassed fuel economy in its class (19 mpg city and 31 mpg highway with RWD)

Quicker shifts are possible on the Chrysler 300S as a result of a sport mode. When the driver chooses to let the transmission shift in sport mode, gear changes are quicker and revs are held higher for even more performance-oriented acceleration and higher shift dynamics. For even more control, the driver can also use a pair of die-cast, steering-wheel-mounted paddle controls and view gear selection through a full-color Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) in the instrument cluster.

The segment’s most advanced AWD system
From winding through twisty stretches of coastal road, to escaping away to a snow-covered ski resort, the 2014 Chrysler 300S AWD model has a commanding design presence and the power and all-weather capability to carve through some of the worst precipitation Mother Nature can dish out.

With the aluminum 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine delivering best-in-class city and highway fuel economy (18/27 mpg), or legendary 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine with 370 horsepower with four-cylinder mode Fuel Saver Technology, the Chrysler 300 with intelligent AWD features a segment-exclusive active transfer case and front-axle-disconnect system to improve real-world fuel economy. No other major automotive manufacturer offers the combination of these two independent technologies.

Chrysler 300’s AWD system seamlessly transitions between rear-wheel drive and AWD with no driver intervention. When AWD is not required, the system automatically disconnects the front axle to maximize fuel economy while still providing the outstanding fun-to-drive performance and handling inherent in rear-wheel-drive vehicles.

Chrysler 300S Mopar-Modified SEMA Show Vehicle
The iconic and elegant Chrysler 300 is elevated even further to reach the ultimate in style and street cred with a variety of Mopar appointments utilized to create the 2014 Chrysler 300S for the SEMA Show.

Phantom black tri-coat colors the exterior, maintaining the elegance of the Chrysler 300S while adding a menacing edge. Fitting its gritty, big-city vibe, all bright chrome trim is replaced with bright and satin black. The front is reinforced by a 13-bar black “Gotham” grille surround, with a lowering kit dropping the 2014 Chrysler 300S closer to the streets. The wheels pull from the Chrysler 300C John Varvatos Limited Edition with 20 x 8-inch wheels finished in a Mopar bronze, accented with Mopar wheel center caps. A black SRT spoiler embellishes the tail and helps drive the rear towards the pavement when in motion, enabling the 300S to corner urban canyons with impressive agility.

Luxurious touches rule the interior, with seats and door bolster inserts wrapped in Katzkin “Bisque” leather. Leather seat backs are embossed with the “Imported From Detroit” logo, and matching Katzkin “Bisque” threads border the seats, door and console armrests. All bright trim is changed to Satin Black, and the Mopar Lite Bronze found on the wheels is also featured in the trim accents.

All 2013 Challenger SRT8 models are powered by the proven 392-cubic inch (6.4-liter) HEMI V-8 that delivers 470 horsepower (351 kW) and 470 lb.-ft. (637 N•m) of torque. An advanced active intake manifold along with high-lift cam with phasing provides maximum low-end torque and high-end power while still delivering 23 miles per gallon on the highway with the standard manual transmission or available automatic transmission. Performance-tuned engine mounts improve idle stability and ride control at all speeds.

All 2013 Challenger SRT8 models accelerate from 0-60 mph in the high 4-second range; run the quarter mile in mid-12-second range with the automatic transmission (high 12-second range with the manual); go from 0-100-0 mph in the low 15s, reach a top speed of 182 mph with the manual transmission (175 mph with the automatic) and stop from 60-0 mph in just 117 feet.

December 20, 2012 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – The Chrysler brand is continuing to build upon the heart, soul and the passion of Detroit with a new 60-second commercial titled “Who We Are.” The commercial showcases the new 2013 Chrysler 300 Motown Edition and features legendary Motown founder and Detroit native Berry Gordy, taking you through his journey from humble beginnings in Detroit to the bright lights of New York’s Times Square and home of the new Broadway show “Motown: The Musical.” The ad “Who We Are” will make a broadcast debut on Thurs., Dec. 20.

To view “Who We Are,” please visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1NCSrwa2Us

“Berry Gordy is a true inspiration and has paved the way to signify the sound and the drive that reflects the spirit of Detroit and the people who live in it,” said Olivier Francois, Chief Marketing Officer, Chrysler Group LLC. “It is a privilege to have such a legendary icon partner with the Chrysler brand and the 300 Motown Edition.”

“The Chrysler brand’s imagination moved the world, while our rhythms forever changed music adding a sound and uplifting spirit that could only be from the Motor City. And our new Chrysler 300 Motown is a tribute to both,” said Saad Chehab, President and CEO – Chrysler Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “More than just a brand partnership, our collaboration with Motown Records elevates our passion to express our Detroit roots further and inspire a new limited-edition 300 sedan that embodies the soul and originality of our city.”

The spot opens with Berry Gordy sitting in the backseat of the Chrysler 300 Motown Edition parked outside the Motown Museum in Detroit, the building where Motown Records was created. As the car pulls away the voiceover begins to tell the story of sound and drive of the city of Detroit, a sound that still moves people and a drive that allows it to overcome any challenge that comes its way.

As he drives through the streets, images of a young Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Supremes and the Temptations flash across the screen and viewers are taken through iconic visuals of the streets of Detroit and eventually transported to the streets of New York where Berry Gordy’s destination is revealed in front of the “Motown: The Musical” marquee at the Lunt Fontanne Theatre in New York City. The spot ends with Berry Gordy stepping out of the vehicle and saying, “We are Motown and this is what we do,” and announcing the musical coming to Broadway in March 2013.

2012 Chrysler 300 and 300C Luxury Series Sedans
“The new 2012 Chrysler 300 Luxury Series is more than just our flagship car; it’s the trophy for the tireless majority, an automobile designed and built to meet the most discerning of expectations,” said Saad Chehab, President and CEO – Chrysler Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “Sales of the Chrysler 300 have been on fire not only because of its best-in-class 31 highway mpg, but, most importantly, the reaction of customers and critics to this great car. There are no more compromises in the cars that we make; consumers can expect only delightful surprises from driving cars ‘Imported from Detroit.’”

“If Bentley made an affordable family car, its interior would look like the Chrysler 300 Luxury. It’s smart and modern with a generous helping of over-the-top lavishness,” said Drew Winter, editor-in-chief, WardsAutoWorld magazine.

The all-new Chrysler 300C Luxury Series are the most richly appointed sedans the brand has ever offered.

Exclusive interior features found on the Chrysler 300 and 300C Luxury Series sedans include either Black or Mochachino Poltrona Frau® “Foligno” leather-wrapped instrument panel, cluster brow, center console side panels and upper front- and rear-door panels. Premium Nappa leather covers the door armrest, bolster and center console armrest. Black or two-tone Mochachino seats are wrapped exclusively in supple Nappa leather and include 12-way power-adjustable driver and front-passenger seats (including four-way power lumbar) with two-mode ventilation and two-mode heated seats for both front and rear passengers. Black or two-tone Mochachino leather-wrapped steering wheel — with all-new die-cast paddle-shifters — features a unique chrome accent ring to highlight the segment-exclusive 360-degree heated rim. Completing the interior environment is specially selected Natural Pore Mocha wood trim featuring a matte finish to enhance the beauty of the real wood.

Available in RWD or with the segment’s most advanced AWD system, the 2012 Chrysler 300 and 300C Luxury Series models have a starting U.S. MSRP of $40,940 (including $925 destination).

It was just this past August when we met up with John Fortuno at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills, MI. His customized 2011 Chrysler 300C, nicknamed “Fatchance 2.0” (or “FC 2.0” for short), had just undergone its second of three build stages. Under the hood, the Bright White sedan received a monstrous 426 HEMI which, according to Fortuno, mounts up just like a 5.7L HEMI.

Fast forward several months and you can see the complete car now with all the fixings (shown below here with the Hollywood sign in the back drop).

Subtle pieces like the door handles and grille surround have been clad in black chrome from Lanzini Body Works, and the Imported From Detroit logo has been etched into the rear window which is a really nice touch.

From afar, however, the most notable changes include a urethane body kit by Xenon and new forged wheels from USW – both of which will be available to the public soon. The additions undoubtedly take this 300 to more of an extreme edge in terms of appearance.

Wheel sizes are 22 X 9.5 up front, with 22 X 10.5 out back, wearing 255 30/22 and 295 25/22 tires respectively. While the size is certainly impressive, it’s more in the detail of the wheels that sets them apart from all others.

The twisted 6-spoke design is set between an inner white barrel and black chrome outer barrel that provide excellent contrast. In photos, the wheels almost look like they’re sunken behind a tire that’s too wide; when in reality, the outer black chrome is playing tricks on your vision. In person, they look really sharp as you peer down to see your own reflection.

Behind the wheels lie a new set of massive Brembo brakes. 15-inch drilled rotors are coupled with 6-piston calipers to supply the stopping power – a necessary change considering the power under the hood now. (We’d love to see Fatchance 2.0 compete in a “brake-off” with a 300 SRT8 that wears smaller Brembos – could be interesting).

But it really is underneath the 300’s hood where the car does all its talking.

The engine compartment has been dressed up considerably and would be the envy of every Star Wars Stormtrooper in or around our galaxy. Bright white paint adorns the valve covers and intake manifold, while the coil packs, fuse box cover, and fluid caps (all custom-made by Billet) are covered in gloss black. A set of Mopar blue fuel rails offset the entire package nicely.

Attention to detail was of utmost importance to the Fatchance program. “We painted and reglossed the entire engine bay,” says Fortuno. “We also created a custom firewall cover that was kept black in order to maintain focus on the engine, and we even changed out all visible bolts underneath the hood so that everything was uniform. […] The details and just how clean everything looks is frightening,” he added.

When it comes to the 426 HEMI sitting inside, Fortuno says that the tune is about 80-85% complete. “The engine starts real easy, but the cam takes some time to warm up and smooth out. […] The calibration is getting closer by trial and error. It needs to run a bit smoother to blend with the motto of the 300, but we’ll get it eventually.”

Additionally, Fortuno stated that Fatchance 2.0 averages about 14 mpg. “If you keep your foot out of it, the 426 can be relatively efficient. I hit 22.3 mpg out on the highway.” Not too bad.

There is no doubt that Fortuno’s car has already made an impact. At this year’s LA Auto Show (where I met up with Fortuno), Chrysler was showcasing a new 300 “426S” concept model with a custom see-through hood revealing the 426 HEMI within. It’s what one Chrysler Executive referred to as a “brute in a suit”. We’ll have to see if something of this nature makes its way to production. (Don’t hold your breath)

Fortuno said that he’s “really pleased” with the overall look of his car. It’s what he refers to as a “banker’s hotrod”. “I think this is one of the best collaborations you’ll see between a corporation and the street. It’s been fun,” he said.

What’s next for Fortuno, you ask? That’s an easy answer – Spring Fest 7.

The world’s largest gathering of LX vehicles will be rockin’ all over again come March 24, 2012.

In 2011, the event had roughly 830 cars in attendance representing 28 states and all parts of Canada as well. In 2012, Fortuno (the event’s main organizer) says, “We’re shooting for a thousand cars, no doubt! We’ll have also have a strong corporate presence once again.”

My name is Kalem Romero and this is my story…

For me Modern Mopar represents a true American heritage that is still alive and kicking today. Unlike other car makers, Modern Mopars did it right and are still iconic today for being able bring you back to a day when big engine, big comfort and big bodied iron ruled the road. They stuck behind the philosophy that a car should have great styling queues but also always be fun to drive. Every Modern Mopar has a personality of its own, you’re not just driving the newest dull and boring grocery getter. You’re driving a grocery getter with a 6.1 liter V8 that has amazing handling and enough room to stretch out and take the long way home. It’s that point of not compromising when it comes to there cars and them not saying this car shouldn’t have this or be able to achieve that. Every car that rolls off there assembly line has a soul amongst it own because we the driver give it one. Rather it be a SE model to an SRT it’s a car you wanted and in the exact fit and trim you desired. You never had to say well I guess I have to pass on this one because I want the look but can’t afford the gas for it. Or I love the look and practicality of the design but really wish it had a bigger engine. Modern Mopar’s fill that gap in a world that usually pushes cars on you, that they think you should drive and not what you want to drive. And instead bring you the heritage of old, of either get me to church on time or get me to church in 8 seconds. That’s what I love about my car and Modern Mopars. Who am I? I am a Chrysler 300c SRT8 owner and I drive it daily, take it to the track on Thursdays and to the carshows on Saturdays. No compromises and always pure enjoyment!
