1429-00132A full slate of activities for the Mopar Mile High National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Nationals was kicked off on Thursday morning at Red Rocks Park, a dramatic geological formation near Bandimere Speedway, by the firing-up of the Don Schumacher Racing Dodge (DSR) Charger R/T Funny Car driven by Matt Hagan in order to “wake-up Denver” and let fans know Mopar drivers and teams are in town and revving to get the weekend started.

The Mopar Express Lane Crew helmed by team owner Don Schumacher warmed up the Funny Car, which features a special 50th anniversary tribute to the legendary 426 Race HEMI® engine for this weekend’s national event, in front of fans in the early morning hours with the sounds of the 10,000 horsepower HEMI-powered Dodge Charger R/T echoing off the picturesque rocks surrounding the amphitheater plaza at Red Rocks. The 35th edition of Mopar’s signature event will be held at the Bandimere’s family quarter-mile Thunder Mountain drag strip at 5800 feet above sea level on July 18-20.

1429-00107
“We wanted to find a fun way to start the weekend off with some HEMI thunder of our own,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand, who was in attendance for the warm-up. “After celebrating 25 years of title sponsorship of this fantastic event in 2013, this year our focus is on commemorating the 50th anniversary of the iconic 426 Race HEMI. The legendary engine is still such a vital part of Mopar’s heritage and a key ingredient in the success we’ve had at Bandimere Speedway over these years. We’re very proud to be able to continue and add to that that legacy thanks to the hard work of our Mopar teams in Pro Stock and Funny Car classes.”

“We’re proud of the success the legendary HEMI engine continues to have on race tracks as that is what persistently reinforces the quality of the Mopar brand, not just making it synonymous with the sought after muscle car but also with quality service and parts,” Gorlier said. “We are especially proud to invite the father of the HEMI, Tom Hoover, to join us in that celebration as Grand Marshall of the Mopar Mile High Nationals.”

1429-00007
Widely regarded as the “Father of the 426 HEMI,” Tom Hoover spearheaded a performance revolution during his decades of service with Chrysler Corporation, playing an instrumental role in the creation of early racing programs, iconic engines and products that still fuel the Mopar and Dodge brands to this day.

In addition to his work on the 426 HEMI “elephant” engine — so nicknamed for its size, strength and power — Hoover also was instrumental in the development of early Funny Cars, small block engine NHRA Pro Stock cars and a long list of additional performance parts. Hoover was also a founding member of the Ramchargers race team, the legendary group of drag racers/Chrysler Corporation employees whose passion for quarter-mile competition helped launch the company’s motorsports program during the dawn of the performance era.

To complete the countdown to this weekend’s national event will be the 13th edition of the popular Mopar Block Party festivities held on Thursday, July 17th, from 6 to 10 p.m. (MT) between 11th and 13th street in downtown Golden, Colo. where fans are invited to take part in a large variety of free activities.

They include an All-Mopar driver autograph session featuring five-time and defending title winner, Allen Johnson, five-time and reigning NHRA Pro Stock World Champion, Jeg Coughlin Jr., and runner-up the last two years at Bandimere Speedway, V. Gaines. Also joining the factory Mopar Hot Rod drivers will be 2011 Funny Car Champion Matt Hagan and 2012 Champ Jack Beckman, teammate Tommy Johnson Jr., as well as DSR Top Fuel drivers Tony Schumacher and Spencer Massey.

1429-00160a
On display will be Mopar’s NHRA race cars, classic cars and special display vehicles, as well as Mopar product demonstrations. The evening will be hosted by local radio personality Willie B. of KBPI 106.7 FM and highlights will also include a live concert with local Golden vendors offering food and drink for purchase. Also broadcasting live from the street party will be Kurt Hansen’s “Race Central Radio on Yahoo Sports, ESPN Sports Radio And KFNX AM 100 Phoenix presented By Office Liquidators, Tuff Shed and Bandimere Speedway”.

As Mopar teams prepare to hit the track at scenic Rocky Mountain drag strip there is plenty of anticipation for the event that serves as the opener of the NHRA western swing, which includes stops in Sonoma, California, and Seattle, Washington. Last year, the Roy Johnson tuned Pro Stock HEMI engines swept the western swing and are hoping to repeat the feat starting with a win at the Mopar Mile High Nationals

The odds favour Allen Johnson who has been the king of Thunder Mountain earning five wins (2013, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2007), four No. 1 Qualifier award, seven straight final round appearances and has posted nine out of the ten fastest passes at this track. He and Mopar teammate Jeg Coughlin Jr, along with HEMI-powered hometown favorite, V. Gaines, will be taking their new Dodge Dart hot rods down the track for the first time since their debut earlier this season.

In Funny Car, Hagan would like to take his HEMI 50th anniversary Mopar to the winners circle for this first time while Beckman would like to add a victory to the two titles earned in 2012 and 2007 and three final round appearances in the past seven years. Tommy Johnson Jr. has seen victory circle at Bandimere Speedway in other classes but will work to take his Funny Car Dodge Charger R/T there this weekend while Ron Capps, who stands third in the Funny Car points, would love to use a win in Denver to propel him further up the standings.

ESPN2 will provide coverage of the Mopar Mile High NHRA Nationals with two hours of qualifying highlights on Saturday, July 19 starting at 11 p.m. (ET).  Three and a half hours of elimination round coverage will air on Sunday, July 20, starting at 2:30 p.m. (ET).

ChargerSRT8.g01.KGPHere’s the first look at a production-spec prototype for the next Dodge Charger SRT, running camouflaged on the streets of Detroit.  The prototype allows a good feel for how the SRT’s aggressive design touches will be applied to its new, Dart-inspired front fascia.  We see a deeper front air dam, a jutting chin spoiler up front, and deeper-breathing front air-intakes.  We also get a glimpse at the Charger’s new air duct on its hood, likely styled in the manner bold duct found on the overhauled 2015 Challenger SRT.  Meaty wheels and tires, and beefy twin exhausts round out the package at the rear.
ChargerSRT8.g06.KGPThis new Charger SRT is almost certainly getting the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 that was just unveiled in the top-tier Challenger SRT–judging from the rumor mill and from Fiat Chrysler’s very own image laying out the company’s five-year model plan.  The graphic shows the same engine specs for the upcoming Charger SRT (caught testing here) as the Challenger SRT, both referencing “RWD S/C V8”.  We can’t say for sure if this particular prototype was running the Hellcat engine, or the standard HEMI 392 engine, but the spy photographers said it certainly looked and sounded formidable as it hustled back to the safety of its engineering lab.

2014 Dodge Challenger R/T with Scat Package 3Dodge owners who want to upgrade their vehicles with new Scat Pack performance stage kits, first unveiled by Dodge and Mopar last November at the 2013 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, can do so with confidence that the vehicle warranty will remain unaffected.

In an industry-first for such high-level performance modifications offered by an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), the factory warranty will be maintained on 2014 Dodge Challenger and Charger vehicles modified with the Scat Pack 1, Scat Pack 2 and Scat Pack 3 performance stage kits with installation at an authorized dealer.

“The Scat Pack factory stage kits can help boost 5.7-liter HEMI performance up to an additional 58 horsepower and 47 lb.-ft. of torque, allowing Dodge enthusiasts to extract the maximum performance from their vehicles without the fear and guesswork typically associated with modifying late-model vehicles,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO, Dodge Brand. “And now with a warranty guarantee, they can do so with the peace of mind that their manufacturer’s warranty remains intact.”

2014 Dodge Charger R/T with Scat Package 3“The new Scat Pack kits reinforce our commitment to the performance arena,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand. “By maintaining the vehicle warranty, we are demonstrating to customers our confidence in the kits, which were built to exactly complement the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger by working hand-in-hand with the engineers who use factory specs to create these vehicles — exclusive knowledge available only to Mopar.”

Mopar and Dodge also revealed specifics on pricing and performance benchmarks for the trio of Scat Pack performance stage kit options. The Scat Pack 3 stage kit will provide a boost of nearly 60 horsepower and close to 50 lb.-ft. of torque — numbers currently unmatched by any OEM without the use of a forced-induction system.

The Scat Pack 1, 2 and 3 performance stage kits will be available beginning this spring with a starting U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $2,195 for the Stage 1 kit, $1,895 for the Stage 2 kit and $4,995 for the Stage 3 kit. Each Scat Pack kit includes a numbered hard badge associated with its performance stage, so enthusiasts can proudly display the emblem on their vehicle as a badge of honor.

2014 Dodge Challenger R/T with Scat Package 3The Scat Pack 1 performance stage kit for the 2014 Dodge Challenger and 2014 Dodge Charger achieves a boost of up to 18 horsepower and 18 lb.-ft. of torque through modifications including a Mopar cold-air intake to provide increased air-flow into the engine, Mopar cat-back exhaust to free up downstream airflow, and an all-new performance calibrated engine controller, optimized to the 5.7-liter HEMI® engine.

For the 5.7-liter HEMI, Scat Pack 2 adds up to a 30 horsepower bump and is geared towards the performance enthusiast looking for that competitive edge. In addition to a customized, optimized performance calibration feature tailored for Scat Pack 2, a new Mopar performance camshaft works in conjunction with the components of the Scat Pack 1 kit to take advantage of improved engine breathing and deliver an additional acceleration advantage.

Scat Pack 3 takes aim squarely at the competitive enthusiast looking for extreme performance and ultimate bragging rights. Huge gains of up to 58 horsepower and 47 lb.-ft. of torque are realized through customized, optimized performance calibration tailored for Scat Pack 3, new Mopar performance CNC-ported cylinder heads and Mopar hi-flow headers.

The SRT (Street & Racing Technology) Brand is debuting its first-ever advertising campaign this summer to celebrate the legacy of its world-class performance vehicles: The Charger, Challenger, Viper, Grand Cherokee and the 300. The “Body and Soul” campaign launched on Saturday, June 8, with 30-, 60-, and 90-second spots across cable television, and continues throughout summer.

“We wanted to infuse our first-ever SRT creative campaign with grit, beauty, longing, desire and nostalgia for the tradition and history of the automobile but to also give a nod to the relationship between the machine and its maker,” said Olivier Francois, Chief Marketing Officer, Chrysler Group LLC. “The Charger, Challenger, Viper, Grand Cherokee and 300 are inextricably linked not only to those who build the machines but to those who dream one day of owning one.”

“‘Body and Soul’ personifies the connection that owners feel with their vehicle; it’s that feeling of when you get behind the wheel and step on the throttle for the first time and feel the power of the engine. It’s that feeling and legacy that Chrysler Group has forged with owners and their vehicles over the last century; something that SRT brand is creating with a new set of consumers for the first time,” said Ralph V. Gilles, President and Chief Executive Officer – SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC. “The launch of this campaign marks a significant step forward for us and establishes the SRT brand’s legacy as a vital component of our company.”

The 30-, 60- and 90-second “Body and Soul” spots start with a nostalgic nod as footage flashes from the late ’60s/early ’70s and children are crammed in a station wagon’s backseat on a long distance road-trip, parents with map in hand. It jumps to a kid wearing glasses in line at the DMV and teens cruising along Main Street on a Friday night. Scenes cut to show a young boy at an outside diner and invokes that the average 16-year-old boy in America would rather have his own set of wheels than make out with the captain of the varsity cheerleader squad.

The spot thereby seeks to answer the question: How can we desire a machine more than a human being? Close-ups of steel, carbon fiber, aluminum, and other elements are seen, which form into axles, chassis, frames and pushes to close-ups of hands and tools bending and shaping materials. It conveys that “every machine has a body. It is up to the maker to breathe life into its creation. The machine is the echo of the maker’s soul.”

In addition to the 30-second, 60-second and 90-second spots, a special 2:15 extended version of “Body and Soul” will be revealed on YouTube.com/driveSRT starting Friday, June 14th.

“The Spring Festival is the perfect location to debut our new 392 Appearance Package for the Dodge Charger SRT8 to some of our most dedicated and creative performance enthusiasts on the planet,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – SRT (Street and Racing Technology) Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC. “With its numerous new exterior appointments beyond our exclusive Black Vapor Chrome wheels, not only will this new 392 Appearance Package set the Charger SRT8 apart even further, it also brings another level of exclusivity to our lineup as only 392 cars will receive this special treatment during the 2013 and 2014 model years.”

The 392 Appearance Package option will cost $2,495, and customers can begin ordering in April.

Powered by the 6.4-liter HEMI® V-8 engine that offers 470 horsepower (351 kW) and 470 lb.-ft. (637 N•m) of torque across a wide rpm range, performance numbers for the 2013 Dodge Charger SRT8 include 0-60 mph acceleration in the high 4-second range; quarter mile in the high 12-second range; 0-100-0 mph in less than 16 seconds; top speed of 175 mph and stopping power from 60-0 mph in 120 feet.

Even with the high horsepower and torque numbers, up to 23 mpg on the highway is achieved by the use of an active valve exhaust system that allows the standard Fuel Saver Technology (four-cylinder mode) to engage over a wide rpm range for efficient motoring or the use of all eight cylinders when the extra power is needed. The active valve exhaust system also allows for straight through mid and rear mufflers for a throaty exhaust note under engine load.

The 2013 Dodge Charger SRT8 features an active intake manifold and high-lift camshaft with cam phasing to provide maximum low-end torque for strong standing starts while optimizing high-end power.

The proven five-speed automatic transmission uses standard steering wheel mounted paddle shifters or the center console mounted Auto Stick, allowing for a choice of spirited shifting on both the road and the racetrack. Both methods give the driver the ability to manually select specific gears on the transmission.

New for 2013 is an improved adaptive damping suspension (ADS) system that is expanded to three modes and tuned specifically for the Dodge Charger SRT8 to provide an everyday performance ride or a much firmer race track capable damping for more challenging driving situations.

In “Auto” mode, a wide range of on-road and driver inputs – such as vehicle speed, steering angle, steering speed, brake torque, throttle position and longitudinal/lateral/vertical accelerations – automatically tune the suspension for specific conditions.

In “Sport” mode, the damping system rebound and compression is locked to a higher damping rate. Drivers can easily choose between settings with a press of a button on the center stack to quickly change the shock damping characteristics from “Auto” for everyday commuting to “Sport” for more spirited driving situations.

In “Track” mode, the higher damping rates combine with a performance shifting and gear holding feature that allows the driver full shift control when using the steering wheel mounted paddle controls or AutoStick.

A new for 2013, standard launch control system helps maximize straight-line acceleration.

When the vehicle is at a complete stop, the driver engages the system by pressing the ESC button twice and then with their foot securely on the brake, quickly applies full throttle. Launch control holds the engine at optimal launch rpm (1,825) and waits for the driver to release the brake. Launch control then uses engine torque management to achieve controlled wheelslip for maximum acceleration up to 62 mph (100 kph).

On the inside, the full-color graphic Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) with exclusive Performance Pages includes timers for 0-60 mph, one-eighth mile and quarter-mile times, 60-0 braking distance, along with lateral and longitudinal G-forces within the touchscreen display.

The instrument panel’s 8.4-inch color touchscreen display – the segment’s largest standard display – also has all the same Performance Pages data as the EVIC, and is further expanded to include steering angle, horsepower and torque outputs along with engine gauges. The display is customizable to a driver selectable background.

Safety and security
The 2013 Dodge Charger SRT8 features more than 65 advanced safety and security features, including standard Keyless Enter-N-Go and electronic stability control (ESC) with segment-exclusive Ready Alert Braking and Rain Brake Support safety features to improve overall vehicle handling and performance.

In addition, standard front-row reactive head restraints, standard full-length side-curtain air bags, driver’s knee air bag and standard front seat-mounted side-thorax air bags offer enhanced occupant protection to passengers in the event of a collision.

The available Driver Confidence Group adds Blind-spot Monitoring, Forward Collision Warning, Rear Cross Path detection and SmartBeam® headlamps.

Connectivity and infotainment
The Dodge Charger SRT8 features an available 900-watt, 19-speaker premium SRT performance audio surround-sound system from Harman Kardon. The system offers world premier innovation, featuring a 32-volt Tracking Power Supply (TPS) 12-channel Class D amplifier that delivers outstanding acoustics and brings multi-dimensional, quality sound for all interior occupants.

The system uses GreenEdge speaker and amplifier technology to offer superior sound quality and high Sound Pressure Level outputs with minimum energy consumption. GreenEdge amplifiers alone outperform traditional amplifier efficiency by up to 55 percent, representing a net efficiency of more than 90 percent in some cases. The speakers are tuned for maximum efficiency and perfectly matched to the amplifier output.

The 2013 Dodge Charger SRT8 is built at the Brampton Assembly plant in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is $45,250 (plus $995 destination) for the SRT8 model and $42,250 (plus $995 destination) for the Super Bee model.

My Name is Jarod and I’m a Member of Great Plainz Modern Mopar Club based out of Springfield, Mo.

I bought my Charger back in Feb. 2011. We were trading in a Monte Carlo and a Durango. I was wanting a nicer Car and my Wife wanted a smaller 4 door SUV. So She got a 2009 Dodge Journey R/T and I ended up with a brand new 2010 Dodge Charger SE. The base model. Didn’t even have Fog lights or a spoiler. But that’s fine with me. I like to make cars my own. With in the last 12 months. I have been saving, buying, mod’ing, sanding, wrenching and painting. I have bargain shopped and saved close to $2k on upgrades. Now I have spent well more then that.

What I have Done so far …

68 Danko Grille w/ Mesh and Color Matched
Danko Front Spoiler Color Matched
Street Scene Hood with Matching Danko Mesh
Fender Stripes
ST Coil-Overs (Flex Wheelers first set) Dropped 2.5 in.
Koni SRT Rear Shocks
20×9 Factory Reproduction Machined faced Viper Wheels
Nexen HP 275/40/20’s on all fours
Jones Full Boar Performance V-Tube Muffler
Dual Exhaust with 4in x 12in Resonated Tips
Daytona Rear Air Diffuser with match Danko Mesh
OEM Rear Spoiler
Custom Painted Side Markers with “M” Logo Color matched
Custom painted Rear Tail lights color matched
Tinted windows
7in Touch screen DVD Player
Big Bully Cold Air Intake
BT Oil Catch Can
73mm Ported Throttle Body
Hypertech Max Energy Tuner

What I have in store for the next couple of weeks..

SRT8 Front and Rear Sway bars
Dropping the Front 5 in. more
False Trunk wall w/ 10″ Memphis Sub & Fosgate Amp.
Strut Tower Brace…

I have done all of this in the last 12 months. It may not be the fastest car on the road. But it looks mean, handles great and is still a joy to drive.

Today at the Chicago Auto Show, Dodge will reveal the new 2012 Charger SRT8 to a crowd of automotive journalists from around the globe.

Hot on heels of the 2011 Challenger SRT8 392, the rubber on the pavement has hardly had a chance to cool with today’s announcement of the 2012 Charger SRT8. This further reinforces the Dodge name as a performance brand.

So with that being said, let’s get into the juicy details of the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8. Under the hood is the new 6.4-liter HEMI® V-8 with an estimated 465 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque (the SRT gear heads aren’t quite done tweaking). What makes this even better is the standard Fuel Saver Technology (four-cylinder mode) on the 6.4-liter HEMI that will improve fuel efficiency over the previous model. Other internal goodies include a high-lift camshaft and active intake manifold that will provide increased low-end torque along with more top-end power. Our SRT engineers are able to achieve this by altering the runner length inside the manifold based on engine speed.

For the first time in any Chrysler Group LLC SRT product, standard paddle shift technology joins the standard AutoStick on the floor shifter on the 2012 Charger SRT8. Both will be mated to the proven W5A580 five-speed automatic transmission and both shifting techniques will allow the driver to have some fun going through the gearbox but the performance calibrated transmission controller will help keep you out of the red line.

The new Charger SRT8 also received a makeover in the ride and handling department. An adaptive damping suspension takes driver inputs and will automatically tune the suspension for specific conditions. For those of you looking to shrink time and distance, a “Sport” setting is available while the “Auto” setting may be appropriate for those morning commutes.

From a styling standpoint, the Charger SRT8 will stand out among its cousins. With its aggressive front and rear fascias, a new rear spoiler and a sculptured hood complete with 6.4L HEMI badges, the folks in the lane next to you will quickly know what you’re all about.

The interior also gets massaged as a new leather-wrapped SRT exclusive steering wheel and carbon-weave, fiber aluminum trim pieces. The front seats will have an aggressive bolstering to help keep you in place when you take your ride to an SRT Track Experience. Speaking of performance driving, the new instrument panel display can be customized to include instant driver feedback such as 0-60 mph and quarter-mile times along with g-forces and much more with the exclusive performance section.

Look for the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 to arrive in your dealer showrooms later this year.
