2014 SRT Viper TA (Time Attack)

The throaty exhaust note of the Dodge Viper’s mighty 640-horsepower V-10 engine will be roaring around the city of Detroit this weekend, as more than 550 loyal Viper enthusiasts are heading to the home of the Viper for a special Open House at several Chrysler Group facilities, where they will be able to get a behind-the-scenes look at where and how their American exotic hand-crafted vehicles are built and then put the cars through their paces.

The Dodge and SRT brands are hosting this gathering on what marks the 20th anniversary of the first Viper homecoming in Auburn Hills in 1994.

“With its 640-horsepower hand-built aluminum V-10 and hand-crafted body comprised of carbon fiber, aluminum, magnesium and high-strength steel,  the Viper is a one-of-a-kind American exotic vehicle that is designed to  reward each owner with pure performance and a high level of exclusivity,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO, Dodge and SRT Brands, Chrysler Group LLC. “This flagship American supercar has inspired loyal Viper enthusiasts for more than 20 years and continues to do so, as is evident by the more than 550 people who are coming to this Open House.”

Over the course of the weekend Open House activities, attendees will have a chance to gather for lunch and a tour of the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant (CAAP) in Detroit where their cars were hand-built, visit the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills, MI and also head out the Chrysler Proving Grounds in Chelsea, MI, to drive their Vipers on the test track.

Viper owners are also helping the local Detroit community by bringing a canned food item to the Conner Assembly Plant to benefit Operation Get-Down, a local crisis center supported by CAAP that provides homeless and transitional housing facilities for the Detroit area.

1429-00132A full slate of activities for the Mopar Mile High National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Nationals was kicked off on Thursday morning at Red Rocks Park, a dramatic geological formation near Bandimere Speedway, by the firing-up of the Don Schumacher Racing Dodge (DSR) Charger R/T Funny Car driven by Matt Hagan in order to “wake-up Denver” and let fans know Mopar drivers and teams are in town and revving to get the weekend started.

The Mopar Express Lane Crew helmed by team owner Don Schumacher warmed up the Funny Car, which features a special 50th anniversary tribute to the legendary 426 Race HEMI® engine for this weekend’s national event, in front of fans in the early morning hours with the sounds of the 10,000 horsepower HEMI-powered Dodge Charger R/T echoing off the picturesque rocks surrounding the amphitheater plaza at Red Rocks. The 35th edition of Mopar’s signature event will be held at the Bandimere’s family quarter-mile Thunder Mountain drag strip at 5800 feet above sea level on July 18-20.

1429-00107
“We wanted to find a fun way to start the weekend off with some HEMI thunder of our own,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand, who was in attendance for the warm-up. “After celebrating 25 years of title sponsorship of this fantastic event in 2013, this year our focus is on commemorating the 50th anniversary of the iconic 426 Race HEMI. The legendary engine is still such a vital part of Mopar’s heritage and a key ingredient in the success we’ve had at Bandimere Speedway over these years. We’re very proud to be able to continue and add to that that legacy thanks to the hard work of our Mopar teams in Pro Stock and Funny Car classes.”

“We’re proud of the success the legendary HEMI engine continues to have on race tracks as that is what persistently reinforces the quality of the Mopar brand, not just making it synonymous with the sought after muscle car but also with quality service and parts,” Gorlier said. “We are especially proud to invite the father of the HEMI, Tom Hoover, to join us in that celebration as Grand Marshall of the Mopar Mile High Nationals.”

1429-00007
Widely regarded as the “Father of the 426 HEMI,” Tom Hoover spearheaded a performance revolution during his decades of service with Chrysler Corporation, playing an instrumental role in the creation of early racing programs, iconic engines and products that still fuel the Mopar and Dodge brands to this day.

In addition to his work on the 426 HEMI “elephant” engine — so nicknamed for its size, strength and power — Hoover also was instrumental in the development of early Funny Cars, small block engine NHRA Pro Stock cars and a long list of additional performance parts. Hoover was also a founding member of the Ramchargers race team, the legendary group of drag racers/Chrysler Corporation employees whose passion for quarter-mile competition helped launch the company’s motorsports program during the dawn of the performance era.

To complete the countdown to this weekend’s national event will be the 13th edition of the popular Mopar Block Party festivities held on Thursday, July 17th, from 6 to 10 p.m. (MT) between 11th and 13th street in downtown Golden, Colo. where fans are invited to take part in a large variety of free activities.

They include an All-Mopar driver autograph session featuring five-time and defending title winner, Allen Johnson, five-time and reigning NHRA Pro Stock World Champion, Jeg Coughlin Jr., and runner-up the last two years at Bandimere Speedway, V. Gaines. Also joining the factory Mopar Hot Rod drivers will be 2011 Funny Car Champion Matt Hagan and 2012 Champ Jack Beckman, teammate Tommy Johnson Jr., as well as DSR Top Fuel drivers Tony Schumacher and Spencer Massey.

1429-00160a
On display will be Mopar’s NHRA race cars, classic cars and special display vehicles, as well as Mopar product demonstrations. The evening will be hosted by local radio personality Willie B. of KBPI 106.7 FM and highlights will also include a live concert with local Golden vendors offering food and drink for purchase. Also broadcasting live from the street party will be Kurt Hansen’s “Race Central Radio on Yahoo Sports, ESPN Sports Radio And KFNX AM 100 Phoenix presented By Office Liquidators, Tuff Shed and Bandimere Speedway”.

As Mopar teams prepare to hit the track at scenic Rocky Mountain drag strip there is plenty of anticipation for the event that serves as the opener of the NHRA western swing, which includes stops in Sonoma, California, and Seattle, Washington. Last year, the Roy Johnson tuned Pro Stock HEMI engines swept the western swing and are hoping to repeat the feat starting with a win at the Mopar Mile High Nationals

The odds favour Allen Johnson who has been the king of Thunder Mountain earning five wins (2013, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2007), four No. 1 Qualifier award, seven straight final round appearances and has posted nine out of the ten fastest passes at this track. He and Mopar teammate Jeg Coughlin Jr, along with HEMI-powered hometown favorite, V. Gaines, will be taking their new Dodge Dart hot rods down the track for the first time since their debut earlier this season.

In Funny Car, Hagan would like to take his HEMI 50th anniversary Mopar to the winners circle for this first time while Beckman would like to add a victory to the two titles earned in 2012 and 2007 and three final round appearances in the past seven years. Tommy Johnson Jr. has seen victory circle at Bandimere Speedway in other classes but will work to take his Funny Car Dodge Charger R/T there this weekend while Ron Capps, who stands third in the Funny Car points, would love to use a win in Denver to propel him further up the standings.

ESPN2 will provide coverage of the Mopar Mile High NHRA Nationals with two hours of qualifying highlights on Saturday, July 19 starting at 11 p.m. (ET).  Three and a half hours of elimination round coverage will air on Sunday, July 20, starting at 2:30 p.m. (ET).

SRT Motorsports and Kuno Wittmer to Compete in Pirelli World Challenge Toronto Doubleheader

SRT® (Street and Racing Technology) Motorsports and driver Kuno

SRT® (Street and Racing Technology) Motorsports and driver Kuno Wittmer will make a surprise entry into the upcoming Pirelli World Challenge Championship Series doubleheader race weekend in Toronto in a Dodge Viper SRT GT3-R that will compete in events on Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20.

Wittmer, a native of Montreal, will pilot an all-new No. 92 Dodge Viper SRT GT3-R prepared by Riley Technologies in the ninth and 10th rounds of the sports car championship on the downtown Toronto street circuit in an effort to promote the SRT Motorsports’ customer Viper GT3-R racing program.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun to have Kuno step into the Pirelli World Challenge and test his skills in the Viper GT3-R against the top class in the series,” said Ralph Gilles, CEO of SRT Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC. “This is a test Viper that Riley Technologies prepared and we see this race as an opportunity to showcase our customer program. We’ve had success in the series with Dan Knox taking the Viper to the winner’s circle during the Detroit race weekend and we want to continue building momentum with our Viper GT3-R program.”

Knox, who competes full-time in the World Challenge in the No. 80 Dodge Viper SRT GT3-R, ranks third in the GT-A class standings and claimed the Viper GT3-R’s first series victory in a May race on Detroit’s Belle Isle circuit.

Wittmer will compete in the World Challenge’s GT class in Toronto one week after racing at nearby Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (Mosport) for an IMSA Tudor United SportsCar Championship event in the No. 93 Dodge Viper SRT GTS-R, his full-time ride, on July 13. The native of Canada has tallied three podium finishes in six starts in the IMSA TUDOR series in 2014 and won the pole position for the Mosport race.

“I believe that the Viper GT3-R is a benchmark car across the world,” said Wittmer. “The Viper has a lot of potential and this is a great opportunity to showcase the car in the GT class.”

SRT® (Street and Racing Technology) Motorsports and driver Kuno
Wittmer previously competed in the World Challenge from 2008 to 2010 and tallied six victories in the series, including two Viper wins in Salt Lake City and Long Beach, Calif.

SRT’s Matt Bejnarowicz will serve as the lead engineer for the No. 92 Viper GT3-R entry. Bejnarowicz currently serves as the lead engineer for Wittmer’s IMSA TUDOR Viper and the pair previously worked together in the same roles in the World Challenge in 2009 and 2010.

“I spent a lot of time in the World Challenge as a race engineer and for me it’s like going back home,” said Bejnarowicz. “That’s where Kuno and I met and he had a lot of talent and potential. We ended up getting paired up, cut our teeth together and we’ve been together since. It will be like the old days – a lot of fun and we’re going to try to put the Viper up front.”

The Toronto race weekend is the only scheduled appearance for Wittmer and the No. 92 Viper GT3-R entry in the World Challenge. Knox will continue to run the full series schedule in pursuit of the GT-A class championship for Lone Star Racing and the Viper GT3-R racing program.

“Since his first race with us in 2006, we have enjoyed watching Kuno race. We look forward to seeing him racing on the Toronto street course,” said Scott Bove, president and CEO for Pirelli World Challenge/ WC Vision.

The ninth and 10th rounds of the Pirelli World Challenge will be contested at 11:25 a.m. EDT on Saturday, July 19 and 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 20. The race television broadcast will be aired on NBC Sports Network on August 10 at 1:30 p.m. EDT.

Additional Quotes from SRT® Driver Kuno Wittmer

Kuno Wittmer, driver of the No. 92 Dodge Viper SRT GT3-R
Are you excited to enter the Toronto doubleheader?
“It’s definitely a great step for the Viper program. I think the Pirelli World Challenge has evolved a lot over the past four or five years. The last time I raced in it was 2010 and it was already very competitive. Seeing how the championship has grown, it’s more competitive in all the right ways and it will be fun.”

Is it realistic to think you can win in your first appearance in the series since 2010?
“We can’t forget that this is a one-off appearance on a street course and we don’t get much track time. It’s tough. There are half hour sessions and if you get a red flag from another class, you can lose a lot of track time. It’s very vital that we get all our laps in as quick as we can, get the right setup right away and it’s going to be very, very important that everything goes as perfectly as possible. Luckily, it’s two races and not just one race – it’s a doubleheader, so we can afford to play around a little bit. Ideally, we would like to win. But let’s be realistic, get a solid result and showcase what this car can do.”

Is the purpose of this entry to showcase the Dodge Viper SRT GT3-R program?
“That’s exactly the purpose – to showcase this Viper GT3-R. The thought is, ‘Hey, there’s a Viper here that’s being built by Riley Technologies, so let’s show what it can do.’ This Viper has been on the market for sale to race teams and drivers for less than a year and we need to start showcasing that this car is a very competitive car against world class manufacturers and talent.”

The Challenger’s new 6.2-liter Supercharged Hellcat engine is also the first factory supercharged HEMI, as well as Dodge and SRT’s first application of V-8 supercharger technology. For the first time in Chrysler Group history, the all-new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT with a Hellcat engine comes standard with two key fobs — red and black. The red key fob is the only key that can unlock the full 707 horsepower and torque potential of the Challenger SRT Hellcat engine; while the black key fob limits the driver to a reduced engine output of 500 horsepower. In addition to the awe-inspiring 707 horsepower of the new Hellcat HEMI, the new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has been redesigned and totally re-engineered to be the most true-to-form muscle coupe on the market with performance-enhancing technologies inside and out, including the new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-new interior inspired by the classic 1971 Challenger. The Dodge and SRT brands now offer the most complete lineup of muscle cars in the market, including the new 2015 Dodge Challenger SXT with its standard powerful and fuel-efficient Pentastar V-6 engine combined with the TorqueFlite eight-speed transmission that delivers 300 horsepower and an estimated 30 miles per gallon; the 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T with the high-torque 5.7-liter HEMI now paired with the TorqueFlite eight-speed or six-speed manual transmission; and the all-new 6.4-liter HEMI Challenger Scat Pack that delivers 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque with the TorqueFlite eight-speed or six-speed manual.

The 2015 Dodge Challenger and Challenger SRTs are built at the Brampton, Ontario, Assembly Plant and will start arriving in Dodge dealerships in the third quarter of 2014.

Dodge Celebrates its 100-year Anniversary By Showcasing its Historic Vehicle Collection

The Dodge brand is tearing into its centennial year as America’s mainstream performance brand, celebrating its 100th anniversary on July 1, 2014. With the purification of the brand and consolidation with SRT, Dodge is getting back to its performance roots with every single model it offers. The consolidated Dodge and SRT brands will offer a complete lineup of performance vehicles that stand out within their own segments. Dodge is the “mainstream performance” brand within the Chrysler showroom. SRT is positioned as the “ultimate performance” halo of the Dodge brand, together creating a complete and balanced performance brand with one vision and one voice.”At Dodge, we don’t make category cars. We make category cars nervous,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO of the Dodge and SRT brands. “Dodge strives to turn everyday vehicles into personal statements. Our vehicles are modern performance cars that deliver that visceral feel that reminds buyers why they fell in love with driving in the first place.”

The Dodge brand has a drive to innovate and a passion to engineer vehicles that are faster, better or smarter and deliver an attitude that was built into the brand by the Dodge brothers themselves a century ago.

With 100 years of history to build on, as well as the innovative spirit of its founders, Dodge is taking the best of its innumerable successes over the years — the technological advancements of the ’30s and ’40s, design evolution of the ’50s, the racing heritage of the ’60s, the horsepower of the ’70s, the efficiency of the ’80s and unbelievable styling of the ’90s — as it paves the road to its future.

From muscle cars to compact cars, minivans, crossovers and full-size SUVs, the Dodge brand’s full lineup of 2015 models deliver best-in-class horsepower, class-exclusive technology, unmatched capability and a slew of cool features, such as LED headlamps, Dodge signature racetrack tail lamps, dual exhaust, 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment centers and 7-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) customizable gauge clusters, to name a few.

For the 2015 model year, customers will be able to drive the new 2015 Dodge Charger and Challenger, as well as the Dodge Challenger SRT with the HEMI® Hellcat. The Dodge brand lineup also includes the 2015 Dodge Dart, Durango, Grand Caravan and Journey, including the new Crossroad model, and the ultimate performance halo car, Dodge Viper SRT.

The Dodge brand’s passionate fan base is huge and growing. Dodge has more than 4 million Facebook followers; the Challenger alone has more than 1.6 million fans, which is more than many entire brands. And with 278,000 Twitter followers, the Dodge social channels consistently lead the competitive set in fan engagement.

Building on record-setting sales success as the segment is set to grow by almost 50 percent in the next five years
Dodge is building on tremendous sales momentum as it introduces the new 2015 Challenger. With nearly 430,000 units sold last year, the segment is up 10 percent since 2009 and is projected to grow more than 42 percent in the next five years, giving Dodge, and Challenger, a huge opportunity to grow with it.

Sleeker, sexier heritage-inspired exterior styling to improve both form and function
Inspired by the iconic 1971 Challenger, all 2015 models take on a bold new appearance that draws on the 1971 model’s split-grille and split-tail lamp cues, updated to 2015 with four signature LED headlamp halo surrounds offset by piano black trim. Single projector-beam headlamps at each front corner light the road ahead. High-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps are also available.

In profile, the 2015 Challenger’s signature muscle car proportions and large thruster rear-quarter panels stand out from the crowd, while fender and belt lines tie together at the front and rear of the car to create a sleeker appearance. Nine wheel designs are available, including all-new forged aluminum lightweight 20-by-9-inch wheel design finished in Hyper Black II, which provides a unique anodized metallic look with a flush body-side appearance. Meatier high-performance three-season rubber is available on the Challenger 6.4-liter Scat Pack and 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker models.

A new split tail-lamp design continues the historic 1971 model’s inspiration. For a modern look, the Dodge brand’s signature LED treatment creates a single ribbon of light within each lamp. A redesigned rear valance provides the 2015 Challenger with a widened, more planted appearance, while fascia-mounted exhaust tips (with the Pentastar V-6 engine) provide a high-performance finished look.

Heritage and high-impact exterior colors range from B5 Blue and Sublime Green to TorRed. Seven different stripe options give Challenger drivers the ability to get instant customization straight from the factory.

All-new driver-focused interior sculpted with ’71 Challenger cues
Inside the 2015 Dodge Challenger is an all-new enthusiast designed cockpit featuring world-class materials, execution and technology, also inspired by the interior of the 1971 Challenger.

To highlight the muscle car’s performance abilities, the 2015 Dodge Challenger is designed with a performance cockpit that embodies the trapezoidal themed exterior in an artistic and more organically styled way.

Dodge Challenger’s all-new cleanly executed instrument panel features an aluminum-stamped driver’s bezel that establishes the driver’s cockpit. For a high-tech look, an innovative 7-inch TFT instrument cluster screen extends through the driver’s bezel and provides a customizable display. The all-new gauge cluster features an analog speedometer and tachometer that straddle the TFT customizable instrument cluster and provide a heritage-inspired “tic-toc-tach” look with throwback radial numbering and concave shape. Additionally, the center stack neatly houses the new standard 5-inch and segment’s largest available 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreens.

A new trapezoidal shaped aluminum-stamped high-sill center console provides Dodge Challenger’s interior with a fresh, asymmetric look, while the leather-wrapped surface and French-seamed accent stitching exudes craftsmanship and style. With its unique elevated design, the all-new center console houses additional controls for the Uconnect touchscreen above with ergonomically located redundant button and knob controls for audio and climate functions. An all-new media hub with an SD card slot, USB outlet and auxiliary audio input is neatly housed inside the center console’s armrest.

A new Dodge steering wheel features a sculpted rim so the driver’s hands have a sure grip at the 2- and 10-o’clock positions, while available paddle shifters (with automatic transmission) are located on the backs of the upper spokes. To make long cruises more comfortable, the new 2015 Dodge Challenger features redesigned seats with improved cushioning and more comfortable contours. Available in premium cloth, Ballistic Cloth, Nappa leather and Nappa leather with Alcantara Suede, Challenger offers performance seats with large side bolsters for maximum lateral support in hard cornering. For improved comfort and convenience, heated and ventilated front seats in Nappa leather are now available.

For 2015, the Dodge Challenger offers 14 different interior color and trim selections inspired by the muscle car’s roots. They include a wide variety of colors and materials, from throwback Houndstooth cloth to Ruby Red and Black, Tungsten and Black, and Pearl and Black premium leather sport and performance seats with accent stitching.

All-new Scat Pack 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 gives Challenger best-in-class power and efficiency
The story that packs the biggest power punch on the 2015 Dodge Challenger is its new Scat Pack 6.4-liter HEMI powertrain. This new Scat Pack car showcases the evolution of the performance brand while staying true to the muscle car’s 45-year heritage, with its roots harking back to Scat Pack performance stage kits offered on 1968-71 Challengers.

With a best-in-class 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque (projected), the 2015 Dodge Challenger 6.4-liter Scat Pack and 392 HEMI® Scat Pack Shaker models deliver up to an estimated 113 more horsepower and 65-lb.-ft. leap in torque compared with the 5.7-liter Challenger models — representing more than a 30 percent jump in horsepower and 18 percent jump in torque. The coupe’s best-in-class power enables it to turn mid 4-second 0-60 mph times and low 12-second quarter mile times.

An active electronically controlled exhaust gives the 2015 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack a deep, throaty exhaust note in keeping with its heritage and track-bred credentials. Performance upgrades include Brembo four-piston caliper front brakes that deliver world-class stopping power, enabling a braking distance of 60-0 mph in 117 feet, performance suspension, an isolated rack-mounted electric power steering system (with three settings: Normal, Comfort and Sport), all-new 20-by-9-inch polished with black pocket aluminum wheels, high-performance tires, standard Dodge Performance Pages, which allow driver control over a range of vehicle settings, including steering feel, transmission response, stability and traction controls, and standard launch control. A Scat Pack 6.4-liter badge, a 180-mph radial-numbered speedometer, and aggressive front splitter and rear spoiler with an embedded ParkView rear backup camera complete the package.

A special Scat Pack Appearance Group adds a unique Bumble Bee rear stripe, Gloss Black grille surround, HID headlamps and unique 20-by-9-inch forged lightweight Hyper Black II matte aluminum wheels. The interior features Scat Pack embroidered high-performance seats, premium embroidered floor mats, animated Scat Pack logo in the cluster, a high-performance steering wheel and premium Alpine-branded audio system with 276-watt amplifier (late availability on interior content).

Challenger R/T models include legendary 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine and available Shaker

For Dodge fans looking for the most affordable V-8 muscle car in America, the new 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T lineup features the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine, which delivers up to 375 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. of torque with a six-speed manual transmission. When paired with the highly refined Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual, the Dodge Challenger R/T models feature a unique performance-tuned dual exhaust and under-floor mufflers with low-restriction bottle resonators. The result: 0-60 mph runs in the high-5-second range and a sinister exhaust growl for the cars left in its rearview mirror – a trademark of the original Challenger HEMI from 45 years ago.

When paired with the new, state-of-the-art ZF 8HP70 TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, the 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T models produce 372 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque, and include innovative Fuel Saver Technology to seamlessly transition to high-fuel-economy four-cylinder mode when less power is needed and V-8 mode when more power is in demand. For even more control, steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters are included. The result: quicker shifts, an engaging driving experience and even quicker 0-60 mph runs in the mid-5-second range.

The Shaker returns for 2015 on the R/T and the R/T Plus models, bringing the iconic engine-mounted, fully functional cold-air induction Shaker hood with up to 410 lb.-ft. of torque and unique wheels, interior trim, exterior styling cues and more.

Award-winning 305 horsepower Pentastar V-6 engine – now with standard TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission for improved responsiveness and improved fuel economy

Challenger SXT and SXT Plus models feature the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine, which delivers 305 track-ready horsepower at 6,350 rpm and a responsive 268 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,800 rpm. A cold-air induction system and dual exhausts from the headers back to the exhaust tips help to deliver more than 90 percent of the engine’s peak torque from 1,800 to 6,400 rpm – all for outstanding drivability and responsiveness. Paired with the new standard eight-speed transmission, the Pentastar V-6 delivers improved fuel economy compared with the outgoing model.

Segment-exclusive eight-speed automatic now standard on 2015 Dodge Challenger
The 2015 Dodge Challenger’s segment-first eight-speed automatic transmission delivers world-class precision and fuel efficiency, along with a new electronic shifter, sport mode and paddle-shifting capabilities for more performance, as well as an improvement in fuel economy. Once limited to sedans costing twice as much, the new Dodge Challenger democratizes this exclusive world-class technology, offering the Torque-Flite eight-speed automatic transmission standard on every V-6 model for 2015.

The new 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T lineup and high-performance 6.4-liter Scat Pack and 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker trims offer the choice of a six-speed manual or the ZF 8HP70 electronic eight-speed automatic transmission. By design, this state-of-the-art gearbox provides world-class shift quality and refinement with enhanced performance and fuel efficiency. Paired with the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine and its 400 lb.-ft. of torque, the Dodge Challenger R/T models can deliver 0-60 mph performance in the mid-5-second range. For even quicker acceleration, the Dodge Challenger 6.4-liter Scat Pack and 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker with 485 horsepower can do the same sprint in the mid-4-second range.

For customers looking for V-6 power and efficiency, the Dodge Challenger SXT models now offer the advanced TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission for 2015, delivering 0-60 in the low 6-second range.

The design of both eight-speed transmissions further contributes to efficiency. At 198 pounds (90 kg), it weighs just 8 pounds (3.6 kg) more than the previous Challenger R/T’s five-speed gearbox. Furthermore, the transmission features particularly close fifth through eighth speed gear ratios for smoother shifting, along with a lower cruising rpm in top gear for added refinement.

The legend returns with fully functional Shaker cold-air intake and complete Shaker appearance (late availability)
For Challenger owners looking for an even more aggressive appearance, Dodge brings back the legendary Shaker package, featuring a functional engine-mounted “Shaker” hood scoop and a full array of exclusive Shaker content. The all-new Shaker hood and scoop provide cold-air induction, along with a Mopar-branded cold-air intake fitted with a conical air filter, which feeds fresh air to meet the demands of the 6.4-liter V-8, as well as the 5.7-liter HEMI, at speed.

Shaker chassis upgrades include the standard Super Track Pak, which includes such performance upgrades as suspension, brakes and steering, as well as three-mode electronic stability control, including “full off” mode and Goodyear Eagle F1 performance tires (all-season tires available). In addition to the prominent hood scoop, the Shaker special trim adds hood-to-tail Satin Black Shaker graphic stripes, Gloss Black grille surround, Satin Black rear spoiler and fuel filler door, Challenger script grille badge, “Shaker” badge underhood – just like the original – and 20-inch polished aluminum wheels with black pockets in satin finish (20-by-8-inch on R/T; 20-by-9-inch on 392 HEMI Shaker). R/T Shaker models add a unique “Shaker” badge on the Shaker scoop, while the 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker has a legendary “392 Shaker” badge on the Shaker scoop and a unique Bumble Bee badge on the fender. Two new heritage colors are available, Sublime Green and B5 Blue. They join TorRed, Billet Silver, Pitch Black and Bright White.

Inside, the Shaker package adds high-performance seats – available in Ballistic Cloth (R/T) or stitched and perforated leather seats with Shaker logo embroidery (R/T Plus, 392 Shaker) available in Dark Slate with Sepia accent stitching or Radar Red with Radar Red stitching, combined with a performance steering wheel, K-Black accents, bright pedals, a Shaker dashboard plaque and Shaker splash screen graphics in 7-inch TFT customizable cluster display.

Super Track Pak
For maximum performance on road and track, Challenger’s Super Track Pak provides a full complement of race-bred chassis upgrades and is now available on all Challengers, including 3.6-liter V-6 models for the first time. The Super Track Pak lowers the suspension by 0.5 inches and adds Bilstein shock absorbers, high-performance brakes and specially tuned suspension to provide a near 50-50 front/rear weight balance. The Super Track Pak comes complete with a shortcut button to the new Dodge Performance Pages embedded in the 8.4-inch touch screen radio and provides visible performance information, such as programmable shift light indicator, reaction time, 0-60 times, G-force indicator and lap times in the 7-inch TFT customizable cluster display.

    • All-new cast-aluminum axle housing reduces weight, helping hold overall curb weight increase to a minimum despite considerable equipment additions
  • Updated suspension tuning
    • Sport-tuned suspension with 18-inch wheels now standard on all Challenger SXT models, while all Challenger R/T models now include larger 20-inch wheels with lower profile side walls and wider 245-series rubber for crisp handling

  • Sport mode
    • Sport mode provides blistering-quick gear changes with the eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission, reducing shift times by 37 percent (250 milliseconds vs. 400 milliseconds), while engaging a more aggressive transmission calibration. When Auto Stick is engaged with Sport mode, the driver can select and hold the desired gear without unexpected shifts, including at the redline
    • Sport mode also engages a more aggressive throttle map and steering feel
  • Electronic shifter
    • Fully electronic shifter provides the intuitive look and feel of a traditional linkage shifter, with less shift effort and refined engagement with detents providing clear physical feedback of gear position. Like the available steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters, the new electronic shifter has a manual-mode shift gate for Auto Stick control

Technology features include all-new Uconnect system
From its updated award-winning Uconnect Access interface, to the availability of Uconnect Access Services with roadside assistance, Keyless Enter ‘n Go, theft-alarm notification, voice texting and the ability to turn the Challenger into a Wi-Fi hot spot to the new Dodge Performance Pages, 3-D navigation and a mobile app that allows drivers to open or lock their car from a distance, the 2015 Dodge Challenger delivers a slew of high-tech features for the ultimate driving experience.

The Challenger’s acclaimed Uconnect Access system leverages advanced embedded cellular technology, which enables direct, one-touch connections with emergency service providers, roadside assistance dispatchers and vehicle information specialists.

With its available mobile phone app, Challenger owners can start their vehicle and lock or unlock doors from a distance. Challenger owners also can access on-demand Wi-Fi, making their car a moving hot spot.

Challenger’s new for 2015 Uconnect Via Mobile lets customers enjoy their personal Internet radio accounts and stream audio content using their own mobile device data plans. It seamlessly brings four popular Internet radio apps into the Dodge Challenger. They are: Aha by Harman, iHeartRadio, Pandora and Slacker. Like all Uconnect-brand features, it is designed to be easy to learn and easy to use.

The 2015 Dodge Challenger’s available navigation system accommodates one-step voice-controlled destination entry and enhanced 3-D navigation map graphics, making it simple for drivers to recognize where they are and where they need to go. The larger 8.4-inch touchscreen is also 29-percent larger than its predecessor.

Through the all-new Dodge Performance Pages available on the segment’s largest 8.4-inch Uconnect touch screen, Challenger drivers can reduce shift times from approximately 400 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds, increase engine and throttle responsiveness, adjust electronic stability control (ESC) settings and firm up the steering feel. Additionally, the system includes active launch control, launch control RPM settings, performance timers and performance gauges, such as G-force indicators and engine performance.

Upgrades add collision warnings, 9-1-1 Call Assist to Challenger’s list of 70-plus safety and security features
The 2015 Dodge Challenger occupants gain additional protection and accident-avoidance assistance, including Blind-spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path Detection and adaptive cruise control, to name just a few. Blind-spot Monitoring provides an alert if a vehicle is in an adjacent lane and audibly chimes to warn the driver. Forward Collision Warning alerts when the driver fails to react to an impending forward obstacle. The Challenger’s new adaptive cruise control matches traffic speed, accelerating to highway speed providing additional assistance whether on long highway drives or in heavy traffic. All-new rain-sensing wipers and automatic high-beam control aid the driver by assisting with common functions during inclement weather conditions. In addition, new for 2015, Challenger offers 9-1-1 call/Assist Call, which connects occupants – at the push of a button – directly with emergency-service providers via built-in cellular connection – exclusive to Chrysler Group’s Uconnect Access service.

George Hooper’s Committed 15 Year Relationship

Avid readers of Modern Mopar Magazine with a sharp eye know about our section called “Modern Mopars Gone Bye”, where we celebrate various special models that Mother Mopar has put out over the last 20 years or so and are no longer in production. Furthermore, if you’ve flipped through the last few issues you no doubt would have concluded that we’re big fans of the recently departed Dodge Dakota. It was a nimble, well-built truck that could do pretty much anything. The limited R/T models especially, with their big 360 cubic inch engines and low 3.92 geared rear ends to launch hard, and tuned suspensions that were the predecessors to today’s SRT ingenuity. To put it simply, we think Dodge Dakota R/Ts are badass trucks and we hate that they don’t make them anymore.

For our subscribers that were fortunate enough to read ‘The Road to SEMA’ (See Issue #7), you’ll recognize the feature truck in this week’s blog. George Hooper of Wichita, Kansas is the lucky owner of this immaculate 1999 Deep Amethyst Dodge Dakota R/T regular cab. In 1999, only a sparse 170 Amethyst regular cabs were churned out of Warren, Michigan. We’re willing to bet that not a lot of them have survived the last 15 years, and George has done a fantastic job of preserving a precious piece of modern Mopar history. George is the original owner of the R/T and one of the founding members of the National Dodge Dakota R/T Club. George is as big of a Mopar enthusiast as they come. The inside of his home is adorned with Mopar memorabilia and collectibles in virtually every room. When we sauntered off into the garage, we saw what can only be described as “Purple”.

Stock Dakota R/Ts are awesome, no doubt. But when you see one with a list of subtle performance and appearance mods that make you snap your neck, it’s something truly special. When you’re dealing with a purple vehicle, you have to be very careful with your choices in modifications, because it’s very easy to dance into the realm of “tacky”. George kept the outside of the truck clean by adding a Profinish-Proglass “shaker” hood, reminiscent of the ‘70-‘71 ‘Cudas and Challengers, and painted the scoop in a nice contrasting silver. To protect any precious cargo, a low profile Checkmate F/X tonneau cover was installed and the R/T logo was airbrushed on. A set of APC clear one-piece marker lenses give the nose a clean look and the windows received a 35% tint on the side, and 15% tint on the rear. At the rear of the truck, a Profinish fiberglass roll pan replaces the factory rear bumper. Underneath the Checkmate cover, a comfortable carpet kit from Bedrug, was laid in and a full set of Mopar splash guards helps protect that gorgeous Deep Amethyst paint.

Inside the cab, George rests his tush on a set of seats plucked from a Dodge Neon SRT4, which are basically the same as Viper seats but wrapped in cloth instead of leather. They’re supportive and look a lot better than the standard high back buckets that come in the Dakotas. All automatic Dodge Dakotas came with column shifters, but that wouldn’t do for George. So a B&M floor shifter was installed to give a more muscular feel. George added a platinum gauge face from Nu Image for some style and a pair of custom embroidered “R/T” floor mats rest under his feet. George left the factory AM/FM/CD/Cassette radio in the dash, but rocks out to tunes from a set of Alpine 6.5″ mid-range speakers, a pair of 1″ Infinity tweeters, a Rockford Fosgate Punch 160a2 amplifier and a whopping 4 Rockford Fosgate 8″ subwoofers. That’s a lot of boom for such a small cabin!

If you looked under the hood of this purple speed demon, you’d never think you were looking at a 15 year old engine. George took his time in making it fill the shoes of both show and go. The original 360 block was warmed over with a set of Mopar Performance 1.92 valve cylinder heads, filled with Harland Sharp’s 1.7:1 roller rockers. Stuffed between the heads is a single plane Mopar Performance M1 intake manifold, fed by a Holley 52mm throttle body. The exhaust gasses are expelled through a pair of Mopar Performance Tri-Y headers and oversized downpipes, and leave the truck through an MBRP cat-back system and reproduction ‘Cuda exhaust tips. A set of Accel 8.5mm wires keep the spark intact, and the clutch fan was replaced with an electric unit out of a Dodge Viper to keep things cool. All of the engine’s actions are dictated from a Mopar Performance computer. The engine isn’t all “go” though. All of the pulleys have been replaced with billet aluminum, along with the battery tie-down, fluid handles and the fuse box cover. The crowning jewel is the Mopar “Magnum” valve covers that have been custom painted with matching Deep Amethyst.

The suspension wasn’t left alone either. George put in a call to Hotchkis Suspension for their 2″ front/3″ rear drop kit and added a set of Hotchkis sway bars for better handling. The shocks are re-valved Bilstein units and George’s R/T rides on fully polished Dakota R/T wheels wrapped in Nitto NT-450 tires measuring 275/50R17 all around.

Over the years, George has racked up numerous car show awards from very prestigious events. He’s taken “Outstanding Truck” at the Wichita Area Mopars show almost every year and “Lowest Regular Cab” and “Best Stereo” at the 2001 Dakota R/T Nationals. George was also featured in his local newspaper in the ‘Wichita on Wheels’ section, spotlighting him and his impressive Dodge. We’re glad to see George has maintained his committed relationship for a decade and a half, and he tells us at Modern Mopar Magazine that he has zero plans of ever selling “Purple”!
